Setting up B56 Belt Drive Induction Seelectric Motors - Important points
See attached Genuine Belt Drive Cooler Motor pdf: For comprehensive information on setting up Seelectric B56 frame belt drive induction motors
Some important points to be aware of when setting up belt drive centrifugal motors
Current reading is too low
- Make sure windows and doors of the building are open to allow exhaust of air. Back pressure will cause the centrifugal fan to slow down and therefore current may be low.
- Make sure all pads are on the cooler except one where you have your Amp meter (tong tester) connected.
- Make sure all outlets are open inside to prevent back pressure and the centrifugal fan to slow down and therefore current will be low.
- Variable speed motors only need to be tonged/amp tested on high/max speed as the low speed reading is irrelevant and can be misleading.
- Check ductwork has been correctly designed as high static pressure on a centrifugal fan will cause the fan to back the motor off and therefore reduce current draw.
Current reading is too high?
- Make sure there is no negative pressure inside the building (exhaust fans operating with not enough relief air openings) which will cause the motor to spin faster than design and give a high current reading.
- Low supply voltage - Always check that they correct supply voltage is present 230 Volts A/C +or- 10%
- On 2 speed coolers, check the integrity of the 2 speed switches. Old switches that have contacts that have started to arc over (switches don’t last forever) can cause both high and low winding's of the motor to be in circuit at the same time. The effect is high current draw and eventually will cause premature failure of the winding's.
IMPORTANT POINTS
- Seeley B56 Motors have been designed to work effectively when set up correctly. If the motor isn't set up correctly to draw the full load current on the rating sticker on high it will effect the performance and shorten the life of the motor.
- Variable motors not set up correctly to draw full load current on high will not achieve correct speed variation. This is due to the characteristics of the electronics which is load dependent.
- Seeley International genuine spare parts have been designed, engineered and tested for optimum performance and safe operation in the specific Seeley International product for which they have been designed.
