KGHV Dominator Series “Inner and Outer Board Communication” – Possible Safety Float Triggered by a Full Water Tray
Overview
The "inner and outer board communication" error on a KGHV Dominator Series unit typically indicates an issue with the indoor and outdoor PCB communication. However, it can also be caused by the safety float being triggered due to a full water tray.
Common Causes
- Drain Blocked: Ensure the drainage system is clear and not obstructed.
- Low Air Flow: Check for any blockages or restrictions in the airflow. Note that airflow settings selectable during commissioning may have been set too low.
- Low airflow can cause the coil to produce more condensate than the drainage system can handle, especially if the airflow is insufficient to carry the moisture away. This can lead to the water tray filling up quickly and triggering the safety float.
- Debris in Pump: Inspect the pump for any debris that might be causing a blockage.
- Pump Bracket Bent: Verify that the pump bracket is not bent, causing the inlet to bottom out on the tray.
Important Note
There is no user reset for this issue. The float locks the system out, preventing indoor fan operation, as the pump runs with the fan. The system cannot self-recover unless the water evaporates, which can take a long time.
Technician Steps
- Remove Access Panel to Pump: Open the access panel to the pump.
- Hold Float Down: Hold the float down with an object to clear the fault.
- Run Unit in Fan Only Mode: Set the unit to run in fan-only mode so the pump can operate.
- Ensure Pump is Flowing: Verify that the pump is functioning correctly.
- Release Float and Refit Access Panel: Release the float and refit the access panel.
Additional Tips
- Regular Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance to prevent these issues, such as cleaning the water tray and checking the drainage system periodically.
