Slow fill time causing FC2 / FC02 in Breezair EXS, EXQ, EXH, EX, and ES Coolers where water pressure is below specified minimum 100 kPa

Issue: Incoming water pressure is below the minimum 100 kPa, causing the tank to not fill fast enough.

Solution: Modify the float valve arm to improve operation at lower inlet pressures.

Fault Codes:

FC2 / FC02 are fault codes that may be displayed on the Breezair coolers listed if used in areas of low water pressure.

Recommended Checks for FC2 / FC02 Coolers:

If the cooler fails to detect water at the probes within 8 minutes (pre-2015 models) or 20 minutes (post-2015 models), perform the following checks:

  1. Water Pressure:

    • Ensure water pressure is sufficient to fill and maintain the tank to the specified level within the specified time.
    • Specifications:
      • Water Connection: ½” BSP
      • Min Water Pressure: 100 kPa (15 psi)
      • Max Water Pressure: 800 kPa (115 psi)
      • Min Water Flow: 8 liters/min (2.1 gallons/min)
      • Max Water Temperature: 40°C (104°F)
  2. Water Inlet Solenoid Valve:

    • In areas with hard or polluted water, check for blockages in the strainer/filter that may restrict water flow.
  3. Water Level:

    • Ensure the water level is set correctly.
  4. Probe Connections:

    • Verify that the probe plug is properly connected.
    • Check that plug connections at the electronic module are not upside down or misaligned.
  5. Water Purity:

    • Minimum salinity required in water is 14 μS/cm for sensing with the probes (according to ES003), for reference Adelaide tap water is 600-900 μS, although fresh rainwater can be around the 15-20 μS/cm range.
  6. Solenoid Valve:

    • Avoid using a non-return isolation valve in the water supply line, as pressure build-up can lock up the solenoid valve. Use a ball valve instead.
  7. Drain Valve:

    • Check that the drain valve is closing properly and not cycling due to debris caught under the drain valve washer.

Important Note:

The issue of slow fill time generally will not occur if the water pressure is above the minimum specified 100 kPa. The modification to the float valve arm is only necessary if the water pressure and flow rates are below the specified minimum.

Steps to Modify the Float Valve Arm:

  1. Turn off the water supply to the cooler.
  2. Remove the float valve arm and foam float from the cooler.
  3. Remove the plastic in red as shown in the supplied images.
  4. Reinstall the float valve arm and foam float back into the cooler.
  5. Turn on the water supply and check if the tank fills properly.
  6. Test the system to ensure the modification allows the cooler to operate efficiently at the lower water pressure.

After plastic in red above has been removed

For Breezair Coolers the correct water level is approximately

5mm above the surface of the tank the float valve is mounted on.
