Installing the ME30-24/D1(BM) Modbus Gateway
Overview
The Modbus Gateway ME30-24/D1 (BM) enables communication between Braemar multi VRF air conditioning units and Building Management Systems (BMS) using Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and BACnet/IP protocols.
Safety & User Notices
- Only qualified personnel should install this device.
- Must be installed indoors, preferably inside a locked electrical control cabinet.
- Avoid corrosive, explosive, or high-humidity environments.
- Do not touch with wet hands or reverse power connections.
Key Features
- Supports CAN, RS485, and Ethernet communication.
- LED indicators for power, status, and data transmission.
- DIP switch configuration for bus resistance and factory reset.
- Web-based configuration interface (default IP:
192.168.1.150
).
Installation Steps
1. Parts Included
- 1 Gateway unit
- 1 Installation manual
2. Mounting
- Install in an electric control cabinet using 4 screws.
- Keep power and communication lines 15cm apart to avoid interference.
3. Power Supply
- Input: 24V DC
- Use only one of the two available power input ports.
4. Communication Ports
Port | Function |
---|---|
CAN | Connects to AC units |
RS485-1 | Connects to BMS or other gateways |
Ethernet ETH0 | Connects to BMS via network |
CONFIG, RS485-2, USB, SD | Not used |
DIP Switch Settings
- Switch 1: CAN2 bus resistance (set to
1
if at end of bus) - Switch 2: RS485 bus resistance (set to
1
if at end of bus) - Switch 4: Factory reset (set to
1
and hold SHT/DWN button for 5s)
Network Configuration
- Access via browser:
http://192.168.1.150
- Default login:
Username: config
,Password: config
- Set IP, subnet mask, gateway, and protocol (Modbus/BACnet)
BMS Integration
- Supports up to 16 outdoor units and 255 indoor units per gateway.
- Use series connection for RS485 wiring (no star topology).
- Add PV isolation relay if >30 gateways or >800m cable length.
BACnet Protocol Overview
- Uses a simplified 4-layer OSI model.
- Defines 9 object types (e.g., Analog Input, Binary Output, Multi-state Value).
- BACnet Object ID formula:
ID = P + N×256 + D×256×512 + M×256×512×4
TCP/IP Setup (Windows 10 Example)
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet
- Open Ethernet > Properties
- Select IPv4 > Properties
- Set IP to match gateway’s network (e.g.,
192.168.1.x
)
