Fault / Error Code 04 / FC4 / 4 – Failure to Clear Probes During Drain (4 Red Flashes) - Braemar, Breezair and Coolair

Applies to Models:
Braemar LCQ / LCS / LCQV / LPQV / BMQ
Breezair EXQ / EZQ / EXS / TBQ / TBS

Coolair CPQ / CPS

Description:

Fault Code 04 is triggered when the system fails to detect that the water level probes have cleared during the drain cycle within 20 minutes. This may be due to drainage issues, water component faults, or probe malfunction.

Troubleshooting Steps

1. Drain System Inspection

  • Ensure the drain valve opens:
    • When a drain is initiated - see details below for water component testing
  • Check for:
    • Kinked or excessively long drain hoses causing air locks
    • Foreign material buildup inside the hose
    • Screws restricting flow at hose adaptors
    • Cooler not level, preventing proper drainage

2. Water Solenoid Valve Check

  • Confirm the inlet solenoid shuts off when the drain is open.
  • Installation Tip:
    • Directional arrow on solenoid must point toward the float valve assembly
    • Incorrect installation prevents water shut off

3. Probe Cleaning & Placement

  • Clean probes using a non-abrasive cloth, taking care not to scratch or damage the metal surface
  • Ensure probes are securely clipped onto mounting brackets
  • Check for debris interfering with probe function

MagIQtouch Controller

Use the Service Operating Screen to manually test water components:

Steps:

  1. Go to SETTINGS > SERVICE on the touch controller
  2. Select the cooler from the list
  3. Enter the Service PIN: 7378
  4. Scroll to and open Service Operating Screen

Component Controls:

Component

Status

Action

Pump

ON

Water pumps over pads

Solenoid

ON

Tank fills with water

Drain

ON

Drain closed (energised)

Note: Operate one component at a time to avoid conflicts

MagIQcool Controller – Drain Mode (Cooler Switched OFF)

To manually drain the tank:

  • Press and hold the Up and Down buttons simultaneously for 2 seconds
  • The drain valve will open, and water will empty from the tank
  • The wall control will display “dr” on the screen
  • This leaves the tank clean and dry until next use

Water Salinity Probe Testing

Steps:

  1. Clean metal probes with a non-abrasive cloth taking care not to scratch or damage the metal surface
  2. Set multimeter to ohms mode
  3. Test wires at connector to metal tabs pins of probes:

Pin

Wire Color

Expected Reading

1

Blue

~0 ohms

2

Black

~0 ohms

3

Brown

~0 ohms (for 3-prong probes)

A reading of 5 ohms or greater indicates a faulty probe
Also check for short circuits between contacts

Summary

  • Fault Code 04 is often caused by drainage issues where the water cannot get away effectively or faulty / dirty probes
  • Use the MagIQtouch controller Service Operating Screen to test water components
  • Use MagIQcool Drain Mode to manually test emptying the tank
  • Perform salinity probe diagnostics to confirm probe integrity
