Routing Mains Power and Communication Cables – CPMD Axial Coolers (BMQ, CPQ, LCQ, LCQV)

Overview

This article provides step-by-step instructions for routing the mains power cable and MagIQtouch / MagIQcool wall control communication cable for Braemar CPMD Axial Evaporative Coolers (BMQ, CPQ, LCQ, LCQV models) in compliance with Australian standards.

Note: This article should be read in conjunction with the official Installation Manual supplied with the appliance. It contains critical safety, compliance, and installation information that must be followed to ensure correct and safe operation.

Important Safety Notes

  • Do not allow cables, cable ends, or the control box to get wet.
  • Do not coil the power cable inside the dropper or cooler.
  • Ensure cables do not interfere with the Weatherseal operation.
  • All electrical work must comply with local and national wiring rules.
  • A dedicated circuit with a separate circuit breaker is required.

Cable Routing Procedure

1. Prepare the Dropper

  • Cut a 50mm diameter hole in the dropper duct.
  • Fit and screw the cable grommet into position.
  • Ensure the hole is positioned to avoid interference with the AutoWinterseal.

2. Route the Cables

  • Drop the power cable plug end and the taped end of the control cable into the dropper duct.
  • Route the power cable socket end and control cable upwards through the corner hole in the transition and out into the tank cavity.
  • Do not coil the power cable. Place any excess length in the roof cavity, not inside the cooler or dropper.

3. Secure the Cables

  • Push the control cable first, followed by the power cable, into the cable slot in the transition.
  • Seal the hole using the plug provided.

4. Connect the Power Cable

  • Lock the power cable socket in place by sliding the plug sideways into the tank cavity.
  • The plug will only insert one way (chamfered end first).

5. Connect to Power Supply

  • The power cable will plug into a GPO installed near the dropper.
  • In Australia, a 10A socket outlet must be located within 1 metre of the dropper’s cable exit hole.

Additional Notes

  • The maximum length for the wall control cable to run alongside the power cable is 10 metres.
  • Ensure the Weatherseal flaps can open fully and are not obstructed by cables or grommets.
  • The electronics module is fitted with a 12A resettable circuit breaker (BMQ, CPQ, LCQ, LCQV models).
  • To reset: Turn off the isolation switch, remove the electronics module, and press the manual reset toggle switch underneath.
