CW3 / CW‑6S – Fault Code 03 (FC3 / FC03): Failure to Detect Water at High Probe

Applies to

  • Climate Wizard CW3 (Indirect Evaporative Cooler).
  • Climate Wizard CW‑6S (Indirect Evaporative Cooler).
(Both models use the same water‑management logic and fault code definitions.)

1) Fault Description

FC3 / FC03 indicates:

“Failure to detect water at the high probe 20 minutes after water was detected at the low probe, while the inlet water solenoid valve is open.”

Effect: The tank begins filling; low probe is reached, but the water level does not reach the high probe within the time limit, so the controller raises FC3.

2) How the System Fills (CW3 & CW‑6S)

  1. Controller opens the inlet solenoid to fill the reservoir.
  2. Low probe detects water → 20‑minute timer starts.
  3. If high probe does not detect water within 20 minutes → FC3.

3) Likely Causes

  • Inlet solenoid valve not opening/partially restricted (filter/installation/or valve fault).
  • Water‑management probe mis‑positioned relative to overflow.
  • Fouled probe pins (scale/biofilm/corrosion).
  • Insufficient supply pressure/flow (require ≥100 kPa, ≥10 L/min; 20 L/min recommended).
  • Drain valve leaking when closed.
  • Cooler not level, altering the waterline relative to probe heights.

4) Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1 — Check Water Supply & Pressure

  • Isolation valve fully open.
  • Static pressure ≥100 kPa, ≤800 kPa.
  • Flow ≥10 L/min (target 20 L/min).

Step 2 — Test Inlet Solenoid Valve

  • MagIQtouch → Service Menu → Fill Solenoid ON → water should enter the tank immediately.
  • If not: clean filter washer, confirm orientation, ensure hose set condition, and replace valve if it energises but does not open.

Step 3 — Confirm Drain Valve Is Closed

  • MagIQtouch → Drain = CLOSED; verify no water escaping the drain outlet.
  • Check O‑ring integrity and seating; verify installation and tightening of the valve and funnel/nut (avoid overtightening plastic fittings).

Step 4 — Clean 3‑Pin Water Probe

  • Isolate power, remove the probe, and clean pins (remove scale, slime, corrosion); refit and reconnect.

Step 5 — Confirm Probe Positioning (Corrected Guidance)

Manual instruction: “Check water management probe position relative to the drain valve overflow.”.

Correct relationships:

  • High probe must be below the overflow height so the solenoid closes before any overflow occurs. If high is at/above overflow, the tank would spill before high is detected.
  • Low probe below the high probe (and below overflow reference).
  • Probe vertical, fully seated in bracket; wiring secure.

Field validation: With Fill Solenoid ON, water must wet the high probe and close the solenoid shortly after, before overflow is seen. If overflow occurs first, reposition the probe lower and retest.

Step 6 — Check Cooler Level

Use a spirit level; re‑level if necessary. Unlevel coolers can skew the waterline and interfere with probe detection.

5) Technician Checklist — FC3 / FC03

(For technicians to verify all relevant causes have been inspected and corrected.)

A. Water Supply & Pressure

  • ☐ Isolation valve fully open
  • ☐ Static pressure measured (≥100 kPa, ≤800 kPa).
  • ☐ Flow rate verified (≥10 L/min, 20 L/min recommended).
  • ☐ Supply line free of kinks/restrictions
  • ☐ Solenoid filter washer inspected/cleaned

B. Inlet Solenoid Valve

  • ☐ “Fill Solenoid ON” test passes (water enters tank immediately).
  • ☐ Valve orientation correct; hose set OK
  • ☐ Valve opens fully and consistently

C. Drain Valve

  • ☐ “Drain = CLOSED” verified; no leakage from drain outlet
  • ☐ O‑ring intact and seated; valve/funnel/nut installed correctly.

D. Water Probe Condition

  • ☐ Probe removed, pins cleaned (scale/slime/corrosion).
  • ☐ Wiring intact; connector fully seated
  • ☐ Probe vertical and correctly fitted

E. Probe Positioning (Critical)

  • High probe positioned below overflow height
  • Low probe below high probe
  • ☐ Fill test confirms: high probe wets before overflow; solenoid closes shortly after wetting.

F. Cooler Level

  • ☐ Unit level in both axes; re‑level if required.

G. Internal Checks

  • ☐ No obstructions preventing reservoir fill
  • ☐ No structural deformation or misaligned bracketry
  • ☐ Hoses/manifolds/pillars not interfering with filling or probe location

H. Functional Confirmation

  • ☐ Tank reaches high probe during Fill test (≈1–2 min typical)
  • ☐ No overflow appears before high probe detection
  • ☐ FC3 clears; cooler transitions to COOL mode with pumps operating as expected

Accessing the MagIQtouch Service Menu

  1. On the MagIQtouch controller, open Settings → Service / Service Operating Screen (see below YouTube video)
  2. The screen allows individual control of:
    • Fill solenoid
    • Stage 1 Pump (Direct/Right)
    • Stage 2 Pump (Indirect/Left)
    • Drain valve
    • Supply fan
    • Exhaust fan
