What this page is for
Use this guide to replace older Braemar (and related) evaporative coolers with the current 2026 range (EA, RPSI, RPS, RPM, RPL, RPXL). It shows the closest modern model by airflow (free air, 0 Pa), high‑static alternatives (RPXL @ 80 Pa), plus electrical and dropper/outlet checks.
Configuration legend
- D = Down Discharge (vertical outlet, direct to dropper/duct).
- S = Side Discharge (horizontal outlet; supplied with flexible/canvas connector where specified).
- T = Top Discharge (horizontal outlet; supplied with flexible/canvas connector where specified).
- C = Chillcel® pads (honeycomb media used in the current commercial range; “Black Opal® Mini‑Cell Chillcel®”
How to read the mappings
- Primary = nearest equal‑or‑higher airflow at 0 Pa from EA/RPSI/RPS/RPM/RPL (best like‑for‑like starting point).
- Alt = closest overall (small step down/up) if that better suit duct/motor constraints.
- High‑static = RPXL option (airflow @ 80 Pa) where the system runs with real static pressure; RPXL fan curves to 400 Pa are provided.
- Orientation: keep D/S/T the same to minimise duct changes (S/T commonly supplied with canvas/flexible connectors).
RPXL or RPL — quick rule of thumb
- If the replacement will run mostly free‑air (short/low‑loss discharge), start at RPL (10 k / 12 k / 14 k published at 0 Pa).
- If you expect meaningful duct static (long runs, branches, filters), use RPXL first. RPXL airflows are published at 80 Pa, with curves from 80 → 400 Pa so you can read delivered L/s at your estimated pressure.

- RPA400 (pre‑OR, historic production) was originally supplied as a single‑phase (1~) belt‑drive unit.
- With the RPA‑OR (Optimised Range) refresh, RPA400 changed to a 3‑phase (3~) configuration.
- A new single‑phase option for that airflow category was introduced as RPA320‑OR, replacing the original single‑phase RPA400 duty point (see Section C).
- Replacing a historic single‑phase RPA400 and only 1‑phase supply is available? Prefer RPS3200 (1~) or RPSI2800 (ECM, 1~) depending on the required duty and duct static.
- Where 3‑phase is available, changing to RPS4000 / RPM5000 remain valid.
- RPA400/450/500: 1996–2024. Spare parts are limited or obsolete with no replacements.
- RPA600/700/900: 1996–2010. Spare parts are limited or obsolete with no replacements.
- RPA1000: 2000–2010; RPA1200/1300/1400/1500: 2000–2007; RPA1800: 2005–2007. Parts are limited or obsolete with no replacements.
- If the system has real duct static, the RPXL alternative is safer because performance is specified under pressure (80–400 Pa).
Earlier RPA400 units were single‑phase; in the later RPA‑OR refresh the RPA400 changed to 3‑phase, with RPA320‑OR introduced as the single‑phase successor.

Notes & Changeover Guidance
1) Free‑air vs static
- EA/RPSI/RPS/RPM/RPL flows are 0 Pa free‑air references; delivered flow reduces with duct static. Use series fan curves (RPSI/RPS/RPM/RPL) to estimate in‑service flow.
- RPXL is specified at 80 Pa and stays predictable up to 400 Pa; use the quick‑reference table above
2) Discharge orientation & duct transitions
- Keep D/S/T like‑for‑like. RPSI, RPS, RPM, RPL, EA connector sizes are listed above.
- RPXL outlets are larger (1090×1090 mm) than RPL (890×890), RPM (780×760), RPS (610×610)—plan a dropper replacement or a transition/expansion (≤ 15–20°) to minimise friction/noise.
3) Electrical checks
- Examples: RPS3200 → 230 V/1~, RPS4000 → 415 V/3~; RPM/RPL/RPXL → 415 V/3~ with rising current/kW by size.
- RPXL: confirm 32 A / 17.5 kW (16k) or 34 A / 20.5 kW (18k); refine with the kW vs Pa values in the RPXL sheet when static is high.
