Purpose

This guide provides technicians and installers with step‑by‑step instructions to connect a KGHV Dominator system to the EWPE Smart app. It also includes troubleshooting for common issues, including SD10 – “Failed to connect to device.”

Required Components

From the installation video and transcript:

  • KGHV Dominator system
  • LE60 Zone Kit (zone controller + RF remotes)
  • ME31‑00/C13 Wi‑Fi Interface Module
  • EWPE/EWP app downloaded on a mobile device

Before You Begin

  • All zones must be configured on the LE60 controller as per installation instructions.
  • All RF remotes must be addressed and assigned to zones.
  • Position the Wi‑Fi module correctly in the ME31‑00/C13 port on the indoor PCB.
  • Ensure the phone is connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi network.
  • Start setup within 4 minutes of resetting the module (flashing Wi‑Fi icon).

Step‑by‑Step Setup

1. Install & Register the EWPE App

  1. Open the APP → tap AgreeRegister.
  2. Select AustraliaSaveOK.
  3. Enter a username, email, and create a password (≥10 chars incl. number or special character).
  4. Tick software agreement → request verification code.
  5. Enter the code received via email.

2. Reset Wi‑Fi on the LE60 Zone Controller

  1. In the app: + → Zone Controller.
  2. App instructs to reset Wi‑Fi—do not press Next yet.
  3. On LE60: Function → Page Down → Reset Wi‑Fi → Confirm.
  4. Wait until Wi‑Fi icon starts flashing.
  5. In app: tick checkbox → tap Next.

3. Connect to the Device Hotspot (GR‑Z Control)

  1. Select GR‑Z Control from the Wi‑Fi list.
    • If not visible, tap Choose Other Wi‑Fi and wait a few minutes after reset.
  2. Your phone may display a system prompt → tap Connect only this time.

Do not choose your home Wi‑Fi at this stage. The device hotspot must be used first.

4. Enter Your Home Wi‑Fi Details

  1. Select your 2.4 GHz SSID.
  2. Enter the correct home Wi‑Fi password.
  3. Ensure the phone is connected to the same 2.4 GHz SSID.
  4. Tap Done when setup completes.

If an error occurs (including SD10), see the troubleshooting section.

Troubleshooting

Band Steering (Most Common Cause)

  • If router merges 2.4 GHz + 5 GHz into one name, the phone may connect to 5 GHz, causing failure.
  • Temporarily disable band steering and/or turn off 5 GHz during setup.

SD10 – “Failed to connect to device (SD10)”

Meaning: The app cannot confirm that the zone controller has come online after Wi‑Fi credentials are sent.

Checklist to fix:

  1. Confirm phone and router are on 2.4 GHz (not 5 GHz).
  2. Re‑enter Wi‑Fi password (ensure no typos).
  3. Ensure SSID has no unusual symbols (no apostrophes/special characters).
  4. Ensure password is ≤16 characters (EWPE docs indicate issues beyond this).
  5. Router settings to verify (EWPE guides & field data):
    • AP Isolation / Privacy Mode: OFF
    • MAC Filtering: OFF
    • WMM: ON
    • Encryption: WPA2‑PSK or WPA/WPA2 Mixed (important for Wi‑Fi 6 routers)
  6. Keep router within 10 m of module for pairing (field guidance).
  7. Try a reset & retry (LE60 → Reset Wi‑Fi → wait for flashing icon).

Mobile Hotspot Diagnostic Test

From standard EWPE troubleshooting guidance:

  1. Phone A → create 2.4 GHz hotspot with simple SSID/password.
  2. Phone B → connect to hotspot → run EWPE setup.
  3. If setup succeeds, the home router settings are the cause.

Bluetooth‑Assisted Setup (If App Prompts)

EWPE documentation confirms:

  • Bluetooth must be ON during app‑guided setup.
  • Grant location permissions if prompted.

Additional Known Causes

(Frequently encountered in field cases)

  • Wrong Wi‑Fi module installed or connected to the wrong PCB port.
  • Wi‑Fi reset not completed within the allowed time (no flashing Wi‑Fi icon).
  • Router overloaded with too many devices (DHCP full).
  • Network names containing special characters.
