Fitting Braemar Combustion / Flue Fans with Twist-Lock Tabs to TH Series Braemar Gas Heaters
⚠️ Safety Notice – Gas Heating Products
This appliance must only be installed, commissioned, serviced and repaired by suitably qualified and licensed personnel.
Before commencing work, complete a task-specific risk assessment and ensure gas and electrical safety requirements, ventilation provisions, safe access, adequate service clearances and appropriate PPE have been considered. All work must comply with applicable regulations, standards and manufacturer requirements.
Particular care must be taken when working around gas systems, electrical components, combustion products, hot surfaces, moving parts, roof spaces, ceiling spaces and confined spaces.
Do not proceed if safe access, required clearances, ventilation requirements, confined space risks or appropriate safety controls cannot be achieved and maintained.
Safety takes priority over diagnosis, repairs, installation schedules and customer expectations. If the task cannot be completed safely, it must not proceed until the risks have been adequately controlled.

Overview
TH Series Braemar gas heaters may be fitted with one of two combustion fan mounting arrangements:
- Twist-lock mounting tabs
- Mounting plate secured using rivets and screws
As a result, replacement combustion fans may not always look the same as the original fan removed from the heater.
If the original combustion fan is fitted to a mounting plate using rivets and screws, the original mounting plate must be transferred to the replacement fan before installation.
Important: This is a normal and approved installation procedure and does not indicate the incorrect spare part has been supplied.
How Do I Identify Which Installation I Have?
Twist-Lock Fan Arrangement
The combustion fan is secured directly to the flue pan using integrated metal twist-lock mounting tabs.
No modification is required.
Screw and Rivet Fan Arrangement
The combustion fan is attached to a separate mounting plate using rivets, with the assembly secured to the flue pan using screws.
If the replacement fan is supplied with twist-lock tabs, follow the procedure below.
Replacement Procedure for Screw and Rivet Mounted Fans
Step 1 – Remove the Twist-Lock Tabs
- Using a flat-blade screwdriver, carefully snap off the four metal twist-lock mounting tabs from the replacement fan housing.
- Remove any loose material.
- File smooth any rough edges if required.
Step 2 – Transfer the Original Mounting Plate
- Remove the mounting plate from the original combustion fan.
- Ensure the silicone cord O-ring remains correctly fitted in the groove at the base of the replacement fan.
- Rivet the original mounting plate to the replacement fan.
Important: The original mounting plate must be reused.

Step 3 – Apply High Temperature Silicone
- Apply a continuous bead of high-temperature silicone around the large holes in the flue pan.
- Ensure the sealant fully surrounds the openings.
Step 4 – Reinstall the Fan Assembly
- Position the combustion fan and mounting plate assembly into the heater.
- Align the mounting holes.
- Secure the assembly using the original six mounting screws.

Final Checks
Before returning the heater to service, confirm:
✅ Original mounting plate transferred correctly
✅ Silicone cord O-ring correctly seated
✅ High-temperature silicone applied to the flue pan
✅ All mounting screws tightened
✅ Electrical connections secure
✅ Heater operates normally through a complete heating cycle
Important Notes
⚠️ TH Series heaters may be fitted with either a twist-lock or screw/rivet mounted combustion fan arrangement.
⚠️ If the original fan is mounted using a plate and rivets, the original mounting plate must be transferred to the replacement fan.
⚠️ Ensure the silicone cord O-ring remains correctly installed during assembly.
⚠️ Failure to correctly fit the mounting plate or seal the flue pan may result in air leakage and poor heater performance.
