XE71-42/G Wired Controller - Key Lock Function

Overview

The XE71-42/G wired controller includes a keypad lock function designed to prevent accidental changes to operating settings. This feature is particularly useful in homes, offices, schools, accommodation facilities, and other environments where multiple people may have access to the controller.

When the keypad lock is enabled, normal button functions are disabled, preventing unintended adjustments to temperature, mode, fan speed, timers and other settings. The lock can be removed at any time using the same button sequence.

  • Any system fitted with an XE71-42/G Wired Controller

Symptoms of a Locked Controller

You may find the keypad lock feature has been activated if:

  • Buttons do not respond when pressed.
  • Temperature settings cannot be adjusted.
  • Operating mode cannot be changed.
  • Fan speed cannot be changed.
  • The controller appears frozen.
  • A padlock symbol is displayed on the screen.
  • The system continues operating normally, but settings cannot be altered.

Note: A locked controller is not a fault condition and does not indicate a problem with the air conditioner.

What Does the Key Lock Function Do?

When enabled, the keypad lock prevents users from making changes to controller settings, including:

  • ON/OFF operation
  • Temperature adjustments
  • Fan speed selection
  • Mode changes
  • Timer programming
  • Access to controller menus

This helps prevent accidental or unauthorised changes to the system's operation.

How to Enable the Key Lock

  1. Ensure the controller is on the normal home screen.
  2. Follow the button sequence demonstrated in the video.
  3. Confirm the lock symbol appears on the display.
  4. Verify that keypad buttons no longer respond to normal operation commands.

How to Disable the Key Lock

  1. Follow the same button sequence shown in the video.
  2. Wait for the lock symbol to disappear.
  3. Confirm normal controller operation has been restored.
  4. Test operation by adjusting the temperature or pressing another function button.

If the Controller Is Still Not Responding

If the keypad remains unresponsive after removing the lock:

  • Confirm the lock symbol is no longer displayed.
  • Check that mains power to the indoor unit is available.
  • Inspect circuit breakers and isolators.
  • Wait several minutes after restoring power if the system has been switched off.
  • If the issue persists, contact your installer or authorised service agent.

Does keypad lock stop the air conditioner from operating?

No. The air conditioner continues operating normally using its existing settings. The lock only prevents changes from being made at the controller.
